Three ways to support farmers

Updated: May 27, 2022

In today's modern culture, it's more important than ever to support local, sustainable farming methods. You can do this by shopping right here at your local farmer's market!

Today's food and farming system is struggling with inequity, inaccessibility, and sustainability issues. But, it's often easy to forget that while walking the aisles of your favorite grocery store.

Did you know?

Most of the farmer's in your local community look to your practical financial support to sustain their livelihood?

It's easy to complain about what's not working on our food and farming system, but it's much harder to remember to speak with one's actions and practical support of farmers. So, how can you support your local farmers?

  • Become a regular farmer's market shopper! Stop by and get to know vendors from week to week. Ask them about their offers, see if they have other related small business endeavors you can support, and invite your friends to market

  • Subscribe to your local farmer's email newsletters, visit their website if they have one, and follow/share their social media accounts. Take upon yourself to share their posts, or take pictures of what you purchased at market at tell your friends to go down and support all the farmers

  • Sign up for the CSA program if they have one! This is by far the most helpful way to give back to local farmers. You can stabilize their income during the high overhead of planting season by participating in community support agriculture (CSA). Go visit the farm! Help with gas expenses by picking up your order on the farm or at market from week to week
